Terms of Service

The service
Canovix re-publishes open datasets from data.gov.ro as a standardized REST API. The underlying data belongs to its publishers and is served under their open licenses; Canovix adds standardization, validation, and developer tooling on top. We are not affiliated with the Government of Romania. By using the API you accept these terms.
Your account
API keys are created from a user account. Register with a working email address and keep it one account per person or organization — accounts are free, so there is no reason to farm them. You are responsible for everything done with your credentials: choose a strong password, keep it secret, and tell us at contact@canovix.ro if you believe your account is compromised. We may suspend or terminate accounts used to abuse the service or circumvent plan limits; termination ends all sessions and revokes the account's keys. You can delete your account yourself at any time from the dashboard — deletion is immediate and removes your keys and usage records permanently.
Your API keys
Keys are personal to your account. Keep them secret — each is shown once at creation and we store only a hash, so a leaked key cannot be recovered, only revoked and replaced from your dashboard. Each plan includes a number of active keys — 5 on Free, more on paid plans. Your rate limit and monthly quota apply to your account, not to each key, so extra keys are for separating environments rather than for extra capacity. Creating multiple accounts to multiply free quotas is not permitted. You are responsible for requests made with your keys.
Fair use
Each plan carries a per-minute rate limit and a monthly quota, both returned in response headers on every request. Keys used abusively — circumventing limits, resharing at scale, scraping around quotas with many keys, or attacking the service — may be revoked without notice. If you need more capacity, ask; that is what higher plans are for.
Data licensing & attribution
The datasets remain licensed by their publishing institutions under the open licenses stated on data.gov.ro. When you republish data obtained through Canovix, attribute the publishing institution as its license requires — every response and dataset page identifies the upstream source package for exactly this purpose. You may not present the data as originating from Canovix.
Accuracy & no warranty
The service is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. We standardize formats but never alter the underlying figures; accuracy ultimately rests with the publishing institutions. Always verify critical figures against the source file — every dataset exposes its provenance (source URL, checksum, import date) so you can.
Availability & changes
We aim to keep the API stable and available but offer no service-level agreement at this time. The API is versioned (/v1); breaking changes to the response contract are made in new versions, and notable changes are recorded in the changelog. Datasets may be added, corrected, or — where an upstream source is withdrawn — removed.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Canovix is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service or from decisions made on the data it serves. These terms are governed by Romanian law.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change materially, we will update this page and the date above. Continued use of the API after a change constitutes acceptance.
